Come and see our newly renovated exhibits. Don't forget to sign up to be on
our email list while you're there.

The museum will be open from 10:00A to 6:00P on Saturday, July 15th,

but will be closed from 2:00-3:00P for the German Valley Days Parade.

We will also be giving trolley tours of German Valley at 10:30A and 3:30P.
The trolley will be loading at the GV Museum by the barn. Admission to the
trolley ride is a free-will donation.

Lincoln's Assassination and the Conspirators

 

Presented by: Don Franz

Don Franz of Freeport, a well-known Civil War expert, will describe the

circumstances surrounding the Lincoln assassination. His presentation

will also include the trial and execution of the conspirators: Mary Surrat,

David Herold, Lewis Payne, and George Atzerodt.

A Virtual Tour of Antietam National Battlefield With an Emphasis on the Letterman Plan

 

Presented by: Dr. Gordon Dammann

Back for the fifth time as a guest speaker, Dr. Gordon Dammann will give attendees a virtual tour of the Antietam National Battlefield. What is the Letterman Plan? Who was Jonathan Letterman? Click on the link to learn about his contributions to saving lives during Civil War battles.

 

Dr. Dammann is a Highland Community College instructor, national Civil War

guest lecturer, and founder of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in

Fredrick, Maryland. Dr. Dammann has served as an official guide at the Antietam

Battlefield in Maryland. He is the author of Volumes I, II, and III of The Pictorial

Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment.

The Legacy of Abraham Lincoln

 

Presented by: Phil Pogue, Certified Lincoln Presenter—ALPLM

A first-time speaker to the German Valley Historical Museum, Mr. Pogue is a

docent at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in

Springfield, Illinois. He will discuss recent books written on Lincoln and tie

in his own experiences of a "Living Lincoln" through his work at the Lincoln

Presidential Library/Museum. Mr. Pogue will also talk about the various Oral

History projects that he has been involved with, the Lincoln Tomb (where

he has worked as a volunteer), and the G.A.R. Military Museum.

Prairie Academy, local businesses, the early German settlers, and more

will delight listeners while being enhanced with a multimedia presentation.
